ReplyDeleteI agree with the video. We do need to get the technology so we can keep up with the students and use it to help teach them, because when we don't, we lose their attention, and they use the technology anyway without guidance, and not always appropriately.
ReplyDeleteThe video explains why I am taking this class. I am not technologically advanced, therefore how am I going to engage my students if I don't know how to use these tools. This is what I want to learn so I can become a better teacher.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both Sandra and Tamara. Finding a way to engage our students and use the technology they crave in ways that will help them learn and grow is vital. I thought the author used images very effectively (eg. the Edsel) in making his point. It's unfortunate that there is a typo in one of the first frames of the video.
ReplyDeleteI agreed and liked the video very much. The video was a good overall summary of why I decided to get an endorsement in technology. We are living in the 21st century and in a digital world. The digital world is not going to change, it is just going to continue to become more advanced and more technological.
ReplyDeleteThe video did a nice job of showing the change of technology and innovations throughout the years. It really made me reflect upon the changes that have occurred just in my own lifetime. As TVs keep getting thinner and computers keep becoming faster and smaller it leaves me eager to continue striving to keep up with our advancing technological world, and therefore to keep my teaching up to date with my students and their technological futures!

ReplyDeleteComment from CLK,
ReplyDeleteI agree that if we don’t adopt or adjust to new innovations we can get left behind and that it is important for our students to learn how to use new tools; however, most students come to school more technologically literate than many teachers. I’m looking forward to becoming more adept at using technology to help my students not only learn and be successful in my classroom, but also in the outside world.

I thought that the video had some very interesting points. I agree that we need to promote technologies as they come so that we do not fall behind. Our students like technology so why not use it to teach? If the students are interested in something, then using it to teach will have a positive impact on their learning. Also, I agree with the point that was made about the economy. Using technology in the classroom will have a positive impact on the economy in the future.
ReplyDeleteThis video portrayed the technological changes that have taken place up to this point in time in a clear and accurate fashion. It definitely puts the 21st century into a a realistic perspective. It made me reflect on my extremely inferior knowledge and skills regarding today's technology and the negative impact that will have on my future students. The video as well as this class have and will continue to challenge me personally to get out of my comfort zone--in a good way. I love the concept of engaging students to create, manipulate, innovate and construct their own knowledge base. It should be our job as educators to help today's students learn and develop the skills and mentality necessary to use these resources efficiently, effectively and wisely now and for their future.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the video that we need to bring teachers into the 21st Cent. since most of us grew up in the 20th Cent. Thank goodness for Graduate classes such as this one. I graduated in 1992 and most of this technology was non-existant or not taught. No wonder most school districts require us to get our Masters so we can take classes in technology. My grandson who's 9 can immerse himself in our new Mac and I want to be right there beside him to guide him to learning for the future.
ReplyDeleteI think the video used an interesting way to show the advancement of technology through the years, and how rapidly it has changed recently. We need to be able to incorporate technology into our instruction because this is what kids are interested in. They are surrounded by these tools everywhere in their lives so they should be surrounded by them in school as well. I think it is important that they receive the correct instruction in how to use technology in order for them to use it effectively.
ReplyDeleteWe need to use & teach technology in our schools! It is our job as teachers to prepare our students to be successful, productive members of society. Students need exposure and experience with the tools that will no doubt be a part of their future.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't have said it better myself. That whole presentation is so true it hurts. Technology will only get better. It's not like we will be reverting back to the old tools that were shown. It is vital that we as educators are using these tools in the correct way, and teaching this to our students. The technology is already available for them in their homes and friends houses. Only by teaching the corrct uses of these items do we really help the student. It helps nobody to turn a blind eye and be stubborn about the world outside of the desk/pencil/paper.
ReplyDeleteEh... The video said nothing we haven't heard before. I definitely prefer the 21st century learners video- It has the same meaning in a much more interesting format: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_A-ZVCjfWf8)
ReplyDeleteI don't disagree with the video- I guess I just want people to share the ways that they are incorporating technology into their own classrooms rather than repeating the same call to action over and over again.
That being said, I agree that technology really does allow students to unleash their creativity. They love any opportunity to create and learn on the computers. Some teachers in my building say, "we don't have time for computers!" This makes me want to faint! Our kids MUST have access to technology! It's just going to become more and more important! Kids should have the chance to use the classroom computers as a resource every day.
And that was my two cents.
I agree with most of what has already been said. We are living in a time where technology is not just important to know about, but it is vital for our students. As educators we need to try our best to stay on top of the advancements in technology so we can take that knowlege into the classroom.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching this video I was surprised that the only audio that was used was music. The content of the message depended upon your reading skills.
ReplyDeleteI liked the visual reminders of how far technology had come.
It would be interesting to find out how true the statement "engage them or enrage them" is. Enrage is a pretty strong word. I wonder if students really feel that way.
I am in this class to learn how to better implement technology in my classroom. The content of this video underscores that need.
I agree with Kayla in that we all already know that technology needs to be integrated into the classroom - the question is how do we do it in an effective way that promotes learning? I liked how the video showed a progression of technology, it really makes you look at how far we have come as a culture. New technologies are coming out at a rapid pace and I think it is important for us as teachers to stay current in these technologies and share what we know with our students.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many technology tools and applications available. I want to learn how to be aware of these. I have creative students who use technology, and that is one way that how I learn about what is out there. A concern of mine is that the technology aspect may get so involved that that is where the learning is and not with the intended content.

ReplyDeleteI agree that we need to better ourselves as educators with respect to technology. That is why I am taking this class. I hope to otain additional ways to use technology in my class presentations.
ReplyDeleteThe video aptly displays visually the lessons we have been learning in class this week. With so much information and tools to process and learn, it will take time, energy and resources to reach the students. Never before have changes in technology moved so fast and these will impact education as the tools are used in and out of the classroom. Already, my thinking has expanded on how to use iPods in the classroom rather than banning them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the video's view of adapting to changes, especially with technology. As the outdated inventions were shown, I realized how much technology is really a part of the everyday life. In education, we are preparing students for their future, outside of the classroom, and they will be surrounded by technology. If we shy away from technology in our classrooms, we are leaving them unprepared.

ReplyDeleteI feel we need to stay up to date with the latest technology as professional teachers so that we can model for our students. They are the reason we chose this profession. I can't wait to learn more!!!
Just trying.
ReplyDeleteThis was a great video! People think we can push teaching technology in schools because of the lack of funds or time, without realizing just how important it is to teach and work with. We can't let our students get left behind, while others in the world are keeping up with technology. It needs to be a required component, not an elective one.
ReplyDeleteI think as teachers we need to learn and keep up with technilogy in our lessons. We are in the twenty-first century, everything is done using technology and our students love to explpore more. Therefore the use of technology in the classroom encourage students to be creative, critical thinkers, and be ready prepared in the job market.
ReplyDeleteAlthough kids would like to learn with the tools that shape their future, too many kids today lack “critical thinking” capability.
ReplyDeleteI am concerned about the role that the digital revolution has played with regard to this problem. So, I do agree that teachers must emphasize critical analysis of digital media used throughout the curriculum.
